Homeopath
Homeopathy is a holistic health system meaning patients are viewed as a multifaceted whole.
The premise is based on the principle of ‘like cures like’ meaning that a substance which produces symptoms in a healthy person cures those same symptoms in disease. It has been practised for more than 200 years and its clinical efficacy is established for many conditions, despite the fact that the molecular mechanisms is still unknown. To become a homeopath, one has to complete a five to seven year (depending on the length of time needed to finish a research project) rigorous training course. This includes an internship where practical experience is gained working with patients under supervision. Homeopaths are given the title ‘doctor’ due to their skills as diagnosticians.

I am a registered homeopath who qualified at the University of Johannesburg. Before studying homeopathy I completed am Honours Degree in Environmental Management in 2015 through UNISA where my dissertation was investigating the role microorganisms play in the process of breaking down coal mine tailings.
Because I strongly felt the need to follow a more holistic path, I changed direction and applied to study Homeopathy. My Master’s dissertation in Homeopathy involved an experimental approach to test homeopathic remedies in the treatment of drug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which is of concern in the health industry, with promising results (Vermaak et al. 2020, submitted).
My goals are to improve the community’s health and wellness by focusing on the root cause of disease or a lack of well-being. I am passionate about Homeopathy and holistic health, and I strive to improve health and well-being through an individualised approach that considers people’s unique life experiences, circumstances, and challenges. Nobody is the same, and I believe that individualized treatment is the best way to practice any type of medicine. Homeopathy can treat both acute and chronic conditions safely and effectively, and it is suitable for everyone, including children and those suffering from chronic conditions.
